Our Upper School (Grades 9-12) ביה''ס התיכון

Maimonides Upper School students are defined by a commitment to excellence. Each morning begins with tefillah b’tzibbur (group prayer), before students embark on the day’s rigorous program of Judaic and General Studies. They also are busy with plans that go beyond classroom walls—perhaps for a chesed project, or a class trip, or a new extracurricular club.

Limudei Kodesh (Judaic Studies)

Students study the classical Jewish texts that are the source of religious, spiritual and ethical values. More than an academic exercise, their experience with Chumash (Bible), Navi (Prophets) and Talmud contributes profoundly to their identity as Jews. Additionally, the curriculum includes classes in Jewish history, philosophy and beur tefillah.

The Hebrew language program develops fluency in modern conversational Hebrew and an ability to read classical texts and modern poetry and prose. Writing and speaking Hebrew every school day create a sense of ease with the language’s patterns and structure. The resulting fluency gives students confidence in their ability to study sacred and modern texts independently.

General Studies

The General Studies curriculum embraces English, social studies, science, mathematics and history as well as electives such as Spanish, Arabic, psychology, studio art and legal studies. Wherever possible, teachers integrate lessons across disciplines to reinforce skills and foster a broad-based outlook. Many courses are taught at Advanced Placement level, preparing students to take AP tests for college credit. For more information about the Upper School curriculum, click here.

As students’ skills grow through the years, thoughts expand, fired by enthusiasm and passion. Questions are asked, answers are discovered—and then are turned inside out by new questions. Maimonides students learn to go beyond the basic facts about themselves, their studies, and the world to reveal deeper levels of connection.
